The Series 126 deserves attention because its specification records what Dodge Brothers did particularly well before Chrysler ownership: build a durable, large-engined four-cylinder car around a straightforward chassis, then give it braking technology that was ahead of much of the mass market. Its 35 bhp figure tells only part of the story. The 116-inch frame, low-speed torque, hydraulic drums, and substantial closed bodies explain why a Dodge cost more than the cheapest American cars and why owners trusted one as daily transport.

The right example is not necessarily the brightest car in the auction hall. It is the one whose serial identity, engine, body hardware, wheels, finishes, and paperwork agree, and whose cooling and braking systems have been rebuilt for use rather than display. Preserved on those terms, the 1926–1927 Series 126 is the clearest expression of the mature independent Dodge four, produced just before six-cylinder expansion and corporate acquisition rewrote the marque's engineering agenda.
