The 2002–2006 Escalade EXT deserves preservation because its defining hardware cannot be reduced to an engine badge or trim package. Cadillac combined the GMT800 chassis, high-output LQ9, full-time AWD, coil-sprung rear axle, and Avalanche-derived Midgate into a truck that could carry five people one day and nearly eight feet of protected floor-length cargo the next.
The example to buy is not necessarily the one with the brightest paint or largest wheels. It is the truck that still folds, seals, levels, shifts, and drives as Cadillac engineered it, with its cargo covers present and its factory identity supported by labels and paperwork. Once those model-specific pieces disappear, the EXT becomes an ordinary modified GMT800; when they remain intact, it records the exact moment Cadillac turned an unconventional utility body into a credible luxury flagship.
